Air Guns at the National Countrysports Fair
Air Guns at Moira
Airgun
shooting is the one of the most popular shooting
activities in Northern Ireland with many of the top Irish
competitive shooters having 'cut their teeth' on an
airgun in their youth.
Although there are a huge variety
of recreational activities for air gunners, there are a
number of highly specialised target disciplines that
require greater precision than most other shooting
sports. Airgun Field
Target shooting has become a very sophisticated sport
with many ethnological developments made to improve the
performance of field target rifles eventually making
their way onto standard hunting and recreational
airguns. It has one of the strongest community spirits
in any shooting sport in the UK and boasts a network of
clubs and associations that actively promote responsible
airgun sport.
At the 2013 National Countrysports
Fair we will have two different disciplines on offer for
those interested in the sport.
Paper and metal silhouette
targets will be used and the shooting distance is not
great, on average just twenty-five metres. The
Strangford Lough Wildfowl & Conservation Association
will organise the 10 metre indoor target event whilst
the Down Field Target Club will run the 25 metre outdoor
event. The air rifle shooting is open to everyone with
the rifles being supplied by the organising clubs
This means that even the
complete beginner can have-a-go at air rifle shooting,
one of the fastest growing sports in Ireland. |
