The
National Countrysports Fair is the largest outdoor gathering of
dogs and their owners in Northern Ireland. In addition to more
than a dozen gundog competitions and over thirty classes for
terrier and lurcher breeds, there is something there for every
visitor with a dog be it a pet dog or a working breed.
Our dog shows each afternoon are designed to be fun and
entertain all the family.
Companion Dog Show
Organised by the Irish Wolfhound Club the
Companion Dog Show is exactly that, a show for companion dogs -
those canine friends that are with us every day. It's open
to everyone and will run from lunchtime on Saturday 25th May
until 5.00 p.m. There is a nominal entry fee for each class you
want to enter and prizes for the winners.
Unlike many other dog shows, you don't need to enter in
advance, you just turn up on the day and chose your classes.
Companion shows are usually split into two parts:
| Pedigree
Classes
These are for pedigree dogs, but unlike normal shows,
the dog doesn't need to be registered with the Kennel
Club.
|
| |
Novelty
Classes
Any dog can enter these classes, pedigree whether KC
registered or not, rescue dogs and cross breeds.
Types of classes vary between Companion Dog Shows and often
include things such as best rescue, best miniature dog,
largest dog, best puppy and best senior dog. The
judges come from all levels of dog showing and enter
into the spirit of the day which is all about fun.

Scruffs Dog Show
The Scruffs Dog
Show at the 2013 National Country Fair is certainly one for
the kids. It starts at 1.00 p.m. running through until
3.00 p.m. on Sunday 26th May and anyone can enter their
dog in this fun-filled event at Moira
Demesne.
Literally anything goes at Scruffs as long as it's a dog
being entered and every child entering will receive a
gift.
Typically the Scruffs Show will judge the
best mongrel, the scruffiest dog, the prettiest dog, the
dog with the waggiest tail, the dog with the prettiest
face and the dog the judge would most want to take home.
There is a small
entry fee for each class with all the proceeds going to
canine charities.
