Retrievers at the National Countrysports Fair

Retriever Working Tests

The Retriever Working Tests at the 2013 National Countrysports Fair will be organised by the Craigavon Gundog Club.  This is the eleventh consecutive year this highly respected gundog club has been invited to organise the retriever events at the fair.  The retriever events this year will be sponsored by the National Countrysports Fair.

 

Working tests are simulated shooting days with the dogs retrieving canvas dummies as opposed to shot game.  Such tests are a very popular way of training gundogs and of keeping them in training throughout the close season.  The dogs are scored by international class judges who mark them according to obedience, marking and retrieving ability, scenting and hunting ability and speed and style.

 

With over 100 entries expected for the  Retriever Working Tests at Moira Demesne the decision has been made to run these over two days.   The Open working test being held on Saturday 25th May, commencing at 11:00.  Entries will be taken on the day of the event. The Un-classified and Novice working tests will be held on Sunday 26th May at 10:00 and 14:00 respectively. Once again entries will be accepted on the day of competition.

 

young handlers at Northern ireland's National Countrysports FairThis year's Young Handler Gundog Challenge will be staged at 13:00 on Saturday 25th May and is open to any boy or girl under the age of 16 years.  This is a free to enter competition with prizes for all entrants. Young handlers should register on the morning of the event.
