The
Ulster Gundog League will be organising the spaniel events at
the National Countrysports Fair at Moira Demesne on Saturday 25th
May. The fair
organisers are particularly pleased that this long-established
working gundog association has agreed to act as host club for
the dozens of spaniel handlers who will compete in the National
Spaniel Working Test.
Novice and Open tests are planned for Saturday 25th
May with the first of these, the Novice Spaniel Working Test
starting at 11:00 followed by the
Open
Spaniel Working Test
at 14:00. It is
envisaged that the presentation of awards will take place at
17:00.
Spaniels are some of the country's most popular gundogs and the
working tests will challenge the handlers on a course at Moira
demesne which is perfect for spaniel work.
Four international gundog judges will preside over the
proceedings with marks being allocated for hunting ability,
obedience, retrieving and steadiness to shot and flush.
Canvas dummies will be used for the spaniel working
tests.
Spaniel competitors can enter on the day of the competitions at
Moira Demesne but must complete the relevant application forms
before running their dogs. It is likely that this event, which
is being run on a different spaniel course this year, will be
oversubscribed so competitors are requested to turn up early so
as not to be disappointed.
Entry to run a spaniel at the Blue Grass Spaniel Working
tests is
FREE of charge courtesy of the host club
Parking for spaniel competitors is adjacent to the spaniel
working test area. Competitors should follow the
Gundog Parking
signs on the approach to Moira Demesne.
